Fall 2009

Summer has been a brief, but blessed season in Maine and now we are slidding into fall. Temperatures are
chilling down at night as signs of
summer fade away and the colors of
autumn start their display.

Saying good-bye to our garden is not always easy, since eating from the backyard is, in our estimation, the ultimate experience for the live food lifestyle. There is simply nothing that compares to eating 'home-growns.'
The quality of these organics is clearly special plus they are convenient and cost-effective which, in today's economy is a blessing. So it is that despite an unusually cool, wet summer, we enjoyed a variety of splendid greens, summer squashes, celery, cucumbers, herbs, and more. Due to the overabundance of rain, our fruit trees did poorly. Narry a good apple, plum, or apricot can be found.
However, our raspberries and blackberries yielded a good harvest, and we patiently await what appears to be another record harvest of concord grapes. Last year we had over seventy pounds of grapes from our three vines. What will the grapes weigh in this year? Stay tuned for the details! For a full garden report,

Our Fifth Annual LIVE FOOD PICNIC was another redounding success. Eleven attendees enjoyed a spread of sensationally tasty salads, raw soups, entrees, desserts, and drinks. In addition to the healthy fare, the evening was picture perfect and the socializing lively and informative. Photos will be posted when they are available.

Capping off our summer were our two major health events: seminars by Dr. Brian Clement, Director of Hippocrates Health Institute, and Rev. George Malkmus, Founder of Hallelujah Acres. Both seminars were well attended and feedback was enthusiastic. The presentations of these two world renown live food nutritionists has sparked new interest in the health message. We see a gathering momentum as more people are looking at diet as being the major contributing factor to one's health.

With the increased interest in eating well, we anticipate having more live events in the form of demos, classes, and monthly potlucks. Plans are in the making and announcements will come when available. In the meantime, we continue to keep a full schedule of monthly meetings, special events, and one-on-one counseling.
